We are living in enraging, inflammatory times.
Anger can feel dangerous…and it can be a great teacher, a wise guide.
Anger is life force energy.
Anger also obliterates.
Many of us have not experienced coherent expressions of anger, nor have we had adequate containers for our developmentally appropriate needs, fears, upsets, or losses.
We vacillate between entitled rage and helpless rage.
Vehement rage and impotent rage.
And spiritually bypass anger in order to not spiral out of control.
Or spiral out of control, adamantly righteously.
The Alchemy of Anger: From Survival Energy to Sacred Power shows you how to transform survival energy into clarity, grief, and dignity - for yourself and for the collective - with fierce compassion.
Series overview:
- Deconstructing your relationship with anger.
- The anatomy of anger: A mind-body rejection of reality.
- From fury to mourning: Anger as a gateway to grief.
- The hidden triad beneath addiction: Loss, shame, and anger.
- Grief, dignity, and the medicine of sacred outrage.
- River of fire: From annihilation back to the land of the living.
This course is for anyone who feels overwhelmed and/or exhausted by the many faces of anger. In increasingly polarized times, we’ll explore anger not as pathology, but as survival energy and sacred power.
Perfect for clinicians, caregivers, family members, and marginalized peoples carrying justice-fueled rage, this course offers tools to transform anger in ways that prevent burnout and interrupt cycles of lateral violence.
Together, we’ll reclaim anger as a force for grief, dignity, connection, and collective liberation.
Develop a relationship with anger and deconstruct the narratives that we have developed about our needs to encompass an appreciation for how our anger style adapted in order to ensure survival.
Define the three broad categories of anger styles.
Identify your dominant anger style(s).
Recognize that anger management is fear / shame / grief / feelings / needs management.
Utilize the Anger Iceberg and the Feelings Wheel, and develop an understanding of the basic tenets of Non-Violent Communication in conjunction with Beginner’s Mind and Growth Mindset.
Practice somatic techniques to explore, reclaim, slow release anger.
Explore the evolutionary imperative of anger on the brain, cognition, emotion, behavior, and the body.
Utilize somatic techniques to effectively slow down and move the charge of survival energy through, thus completing the stress response cycle.
Track the somatic-cognitive-behavioral-emotional sequelae of anger back to core beliefs, root emotional triggers, and unmet needs.
Explore how anger often conceals unexpressed and ambiguous grief - particularly in complex developmental trauma survivors whose losses may be invisible, unrecognized, or ongoing, especially when shaped by histories of neglect, betrayal, colonization, displacement, and systemic violence.
Psychoeducation, and titration and pendulation as guidelines to skilfully navigate the volcanic confluence of grief and trauma.
Engage experientially in an intervention to uncover the unmetabolized grief that may be hidden underneath anger.
Understand addictive patterns and compulsive behaviors not only as an individual struggle, but also as a response to unresolved grief, internalized shame, and unexpressed rage carried across personal, ancestral, and systemic histories.
Explore the need-rage-shame-addiction cycle through a parts framework.
Engage experientially in a timeline exercise to reveal the intersection of addictions (and other compulsive self-soothing behaviors) and unmetabolized loss.
Contextualize anger and grief as ancestral collective experiences shaped by systems of oppression, colonization, and generational trauma that have disrupted ancestral ways of honoring these emotions as sacred guides.
Reclaim sacred outrage as a dignified, embodied response to violation, injustice and systemic silencing - rather than a pathology to suppress.
Differentiate between internalized oppression (shame, self-directed rage that fractures ancestral connection) and sacred outrage (ancestral dignity, boundary, and truth-telling in service of collective liberation).
Engage in somatic, ritual, and communal practices that honor grief and anger as portals to ancestral connection, healing, and intergenerational repair.
Understand annihilation energy as an extreme expression of anger rooted in personal, collective and ancestral experiences of obliteration, terror, erasure, humiliation, and subjugation — including colonization, genocide, enslavement, war, and ecocide.
Recognize how annihilation energy expresses (e.g. domestic violence, sadism, vengeance, passive aggression and outright aggression), how it is “managed”, and how it lives in the body as ancestral memory and survival imperative.
Explore and practice somatic and communal pathways for transforming annihilation energy — moving from destruction toward dignity, grief, repair, and re-entry into the land of the living.
